A Monroe County resident has been jailed for assault on a police officer and other offenses. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 26, about 10:26 p.m.

Police responded to the Penmart store along SR196 in Coolbaugh Township, for a reported fight inside the store.Upon arrival police made contact with Niambi Hamilton, 30, and Wilmir Perez, 25, both of Tobyhanna. Police learned that Hamilton tried to assault Perez inside the store.Hamilton also assaulted a police officer while in custody. Hamilton was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, terroristic threats, simple assault, possession of instruments of crime, public drunkenness, and harassment.Hamilton was placed in the county prison in Snydersville pending arraignment.
