Man hurled through rear of pickup truck cap

A man was hurled through the truck cap glass of a pickup truck during an accident in Mahoning Township.

Mahoning Township Police said the accident happened at 11:35 p.m. on Friday, June 22, along Mill Road.Police said Candace Tejera of Nesquehoning was traveling south on Mill Road at an apparent high rate of speed in a 1990 Jeep Comanche. She lost control of the vehicle in a curve, and crossed over the center of the roadway.The vehicle went down an incline, through a row of trees, across a stream, and struck an embankment. She told police she dropped a cigarette, which apparently caused the accident.A male passenger was in the bed of the truck at the time of the accident. He was thrown through the truck cap glass, and rear window glass into the front of the truck. There were three people in the vehicle, and all suffered injuries, police said.Charges are pending against the driver.In other police news:• Troy West Clookey of Blakeslee was arrested by Mahoning Township Police for suspicion of DUI.Police said on June 23, at 9:37 p.m., a vehicle was stopped for careless driving. The driver, Clookey, became belligerent with officers, resisted arrest, and shouted profanities while at the Gnaden Huetten Campus of Blue Mountain Health System.Clookey refused a blood test and was charged with DUI, persistent disorderly conduct, careless driving, and following too closely.He was arraigned before District Judge Joseph Homanko, and released on $2,500 unsecured bail.• Jennifer Gongora of Kunkletown was charged with retail theft at the Giant Supermarket, allegedly committing the theft on May 26.Police said she returned stolen merchandise to the store. The items, valued at $34.53, included high gloss paper and a calculator.
