Lehighton Borough Council came up with a unique financial arrangement involving the Lehighton Fire Department, which could result in the purchase of two more pieces of apparatus in the next decade. The arrangement involved the purchase of an aerial-pumper combination. The borough contributed $200,000 toward the truck and loaned the department an additional $120,000. Instead of making direct payback on the loan, the department will putt the funds into a special interest-bearing, borough account for future apparatus purchase.
