State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two crashes probed by troopers on Schuylkill County roads, one being a hit-and-run.
A two-vehicle crash was reported about 6:52 a.m. on Friday, June 15, along SR901, in Foster Township. Troopers said a 17-year-old female from Pottsville was driving a 2010 Toyota Rav4 eastbound in the village of Buck Run, at a high rate of speed when she failed to negotiate a sharp left curve. As the vehicle entered the curve at a high rate of speed it slid off the east shoulder striking a suspension pole which broke into three pieces.A piece of the broken pole, while still under tension, fell across both lanes of travel and struck the cab and trailer of a tractor-trailer rig operated by James L. Neal, 61, of South Williamsport, Lycoming County. After striking the tension pole, the Rav4 then struck a tree and spun counter-clockwise, coming to rest along the east shoulder. The teen and her 16-year-old female passenger, from Minersville, and Neal, were all not injured. Troopers cited the teen for driving on roadways laned for traffic. The hit-and-run was reported about 2:30 a.m. along Jack and Jill Drive, in North Manheim Township. Troopers said a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, legally parked in front of a residence, was struck by another vehicle whose driver fled the scene. The rear driver side of the Cobalt was damaged. The hit-and-run vehicle should have damage to the passenger side and should have a broken headlight. A portion of what appears to be a bug shield was found at the scene.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 593-2000.
