A mini heat wave caused problems for motorists on Route 248 in Franklin Township. The hot temperatures caused patching material on the highway to soften. The material caught onto the tires of vehicles and caused some bumpy driving conditions. At one location on the highway, a strip of patch melted and expanded, causing a small upheaval in the road surface. A spokesman for PennDOT said the highway had been repaired with sealer. However, with the record heat and heavy traffic on the highway, the tar began to melt.
