Kellie Pickler: A 'Penn's Peak Idol'

Last night, country singer Kellie Pickler was a "Penn's Peak Idol."

The contestant from the popular "American Idol" TV show attracted a large audience at the local venue who applauded her every move, gushed, took pictures, and even gave her gifts.In a concert that lasted nearly 1 1/2 hours, Pickler responded with a satisfying performance that gave the crowd a glimpse of her fantastic vocal versatility as well as her confidence on the stage.Backed by a five-piece band, Pickler sang her charted songs as well as some selections from an album released in January entitled "100 Proof."She opened the concert with up-tempo songs, utilizing the entire stage as she traveled from one side to the other.Then, by the fourth number, she put on a different appearance. The smile left her face and she got serious when she sang the song "Tough," a song about a girl growing up with a hard life.She showed her great ability to deliver a ballad with "Stop Cheating On Me (Or I'll Start Cheating on You."Pickler told the crowd how she idolized the late Tammy Wynette and sang a tribute to her, "Where's Tammy Wynette."Although many of her songs were modern-sounding, country pop, she also mixed in a generous serving of twangy songs which delighted traditionalists of the genre.The title song "100 Proof" is about her husband, she said, adding "he's really my best friend." The song compares the great life the protagonist has in comparison to another couple they witness having tougher times.She didn't disappoint once, singing all her hits including the romantic "Don't You Know You're Beautiful" to the heartbreaking "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You."Tonight on the Penn's Peak stage, 7 Bridges - The Ultimate Eagles Experience will perform at 8 p.m.7 Bridges is a group of musicians combining vocal precision and stage presence that has garnered them nationwide acclaim. The band fully recreates the Eagles sound without the use of backing tracks or harmonizers.7 Bridges provides an all ages show that highlights the band's most prolific period.Tickets at the door for the concert are just $22.
