A Schuylkill County man is facing a theft count after he allegedly took aluminum cans that had been donated by the local Boy Scouts.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said John Paul Snyder, 61, of Palo Alto, was charged with taking about 50 pounds of the cans from the area of the Auburn borough building, at Fifth and Pearsons sts., on May 13 about 7:45 p.m. The cans had been donated by the Auburn Boy Scout troop.A witness observed Snyder taking the cans and driving away. The witness followed Snyder and obtained a good description of Snyder and his vehicle registration plate which enabled troopers to make the arrest.In addition to being charged with theft by unlawful taking, Snyder was also cited for driving with a revoked driver's license.
