Lehighton arrests

Lehighton police reported on the following arrests made by officers.

Richard E. Hartranft, 47, of 101 Lehigh Drive, Lehighton, was cited for smoking in the Col. Jacob Weiss Park on Monday, June 4, about 2:45 p.m. Smoking in the park is prohibited by borough ordinance.Edwin Mertz, 52, of 131 Mauch Chunk St., Lehighton, was cited for criminal mischief and public drunkenness for an incident on March 18, about 7:40 p.m.Police said Mertz allegedly damaged a six-foot piece of PVC pipe he pulled from a yard in the 400 block of N. First St.David Goss, 27, of 2081 Mahoning Drive West, Lehighton, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.He was stopped at the corner of Bridge and Union sts., on March 4. Given a test, the result was .20BAC.On April 6 police were initially called to the 200 block of N. First St. for a fight.Prior to arrival information was received that both vehicles involved in the incident were leaving the scene.Both vehicles were subsequently stopped on SR209.Police said Paul Smith, 22, of Merwinsburg Rd., Effort R.1, was charged with DUI and driving while his operating privilege was suspended for revoked. Given a test, the result was .19BAC.Robert Gardner, 25, of 104 Rockey Lane, Hawley, Wayne County, was charged with DUI at the same scene.Given a test, the result was .10BAC.
