Tamaqua graduate and 2010 TIMES NEWS girls track athlete of the year Allison Updike performed well at the opening day of the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field Championships.

Updike finished ninth overall.The University of Georgia freshman threw her best distance on her first attempt of the day with a throw of 158 feet, eight inches. Updike followed her preliminary attempt with a throws of 149-1, 155-1, and 149-10 in the finals.
