Young man lifeflighted after being struck by car

A man in his early 20's was lifeflighted after being struck by a car just after 6:30 p.m. yesterday in Tamaqua.

The incident happened on Lafayette Street, between the intersection of North Lehigh and Gay streets.Witnesses said the man was playing games with children when he ran out onto street and was hit by a car traveling east. The witness added that the impact also threw the man into the side of a parked box truck.The young male driver and passengers of the car that hit him stopped to offer aid and were not injured.Witnesses said the man who was struck was bleeding from his head, arms and legs.Members of the Tamaqua Fire Department set up a landing zone for PennStar helicopter at the Tamaqua Middle School parking lot. Emergency personnel said he was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township. Responding were Tamaqua police and ambulance. No more information was available from police as of press time.
