Fast action by a Lehighton teenager prevented serious fire damage to his family's residence. Chris Fredericks, 15, of Coal Street, heard his mother yell there was a fire. He said he first grabbed a pitcher of water and hurled it on the burning wall, then ran outside and grabbed a garden hose, which he used to knock down the flames. The fire at the John Fredericks residence occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Damages were confined to a rear pantry. Dwight Nothstein, assistant fire chief in Lehighton, praised the youth for his quick actions.
