Team "trekking" to combat Multiple Sclerosis

Jim Thorpe High School Junior Robert Taylor's senior project was to organize a team of volunteers to help raise funds for the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Society.

He and others formed a team that would participate in a six-mile walk/run in Philadelphia to benefit the Society. The event, which has been held for the last five years, was broken down into teams where participants would designate a loved one for the team to represent and honor. The individual Robert chose to be represented was his namesake and Uncle, Robert "Turk" Taylor who has Multiple Sclerosis. The name chosen for the assembled team that would travel to Philadelphia was, appropriately enough, "Turk's Trekkers".The main source of the donations to the MS Society was obtained through the selling of the Turk's Trekkers tee shirts, the graphic design for which was done by another nephew, Rick Taylor. With a goal to raise $500 for the MS Society, funds were also raised through, donations, and the sale of candy and protein bars. All of the team of Turk's Trekkers participated in the six-mile walk while two members,William Taylor and Katlyn Pagaduan, also participated in a six-mile run.The team of 20 participated with thousands of others who also took part in the fundraising event in Philadelphia. These walkers/runners included people of all ages, the young and the old, people in motorized chairs, and even people in wheelchairs.Upon their return from Philadelphia, the team of Turk's Trekkers gathered on the deck at Molly Maguires Pub & Steakhouse in Jim Thorpe for a get-together.While at that time, figures had not yet been finalized, they were confident that the funds raised for the MS Society would be at least $500 if not more, all raised in Jim Thorpe.
