Woman faces charges for Turkey Hill theft

Tiffany Binder, 30, of 139 W. Ridge St., Lansford, faces charges from an incident which took place on Nov. 10, 2011 at Turkey Hill. Charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property were filed by Officer Brian Horos.

Here's what happened, according to an affidavit of probable cause:Horos was called to the store at midnight on a report of medications being stolen. There, he met the victim, Lorraine Breslin and store manager Tanya Schmitt. Breslin said she was at the store for a cup of coffee, and had set her bag of prescription medications on the counter as she was pouring her drink. After pouring the coffee, she went to pick up the bag and it was gone. The bag contained medications were worth $458.61.Schmitt said the theft was caught on video. Horos watched the video, and could clearly see Binder, in a brown hoodie, take the medications and leave the store with them. He went to Binder's house at 600 E. Patterson St. and knocked on the door, but did not get a response. He returned to the police station, where Det. Sgt. Jack Soberick told him that Binder had called to ask why Horos was at her house.Horos called Binder back, and asked her to come to the police station to give a statement on the incident. A short time later, Binder arrived at the station, still wearing the brown hoodie she was wearing when she allegedly committed the theft.Horos told her of his investigation and gave her her Miranda rights. Binder admitted to stealing the medication.
