New Jersey man jailed in Carbon

A New Jersey man was jailed in Carbon County following an incident in Jim Thorpe.

Borough police said about 4:02 p.m. on Friday, May 18, they were dispatched to the Sam Miller baseball field, located along North Avenue, for a male shooting people with a BB gun.On scene officers found Francis G. Vitagliano Jr., 23, of Veterans Place, Hammonton. He had shot two adults and two juveniles with a BB gun. The victims were reported as Harold R. Baker, Fred J. Baker, a 13-year-old male, and a 15-year-old female, all from Jim Thorpe.While taking Vitagliano into custody he informed officers that he had a capped needle in his front left pants pocket.Vitagliano was placed under arrest and charged with four counts each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person (misdemeanor twos), one count of possession of drug paraphernalia (a misdemeanor), and summary offense of disorderly conduct.He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Joseph Homanko, of Weatherly, and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning, after failing to post $50,000 bail.
