Cemetery services, Memorial Day program slated by American Legion Post in Slatington

On Sunday, May 27, American Legion Post 16, Slatington, will have its annual Memorial services at outlying cemeteries. Members will leave the Post Home at 8 a.m.

The schedule of cemeteries to be visited is: Williamstown Cemetery, 8:10 a.m.; Jacob's Church Cemetery in Jacksonville, 8:40 a.m; Ebenezer Church Cemetery in New Tripoli, 9:15 a.m.; Heidelberg United Church of Christ Cemetery, 9:45 a.m.; Neff's Lutheran Cemetery, 10:15 a.m.; Seventh St. Catholic Cemetery, 10:45 a.m.; Fairview Cemetery, 11 a.m.; Friedens Cemetery, 11:15 a.m.; Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 11:45 a.m.; and back to the Post Home for dinner. Legionaires, Auxiliary members, Sons of American Legion and Legion Riders are invited to attend the dinner.On Monday, May 28, the Legionaires will leave the Post Home at 8 a.m.; Washington Street Catholic Cemetery, 8:05 a.m.; Slatedale Cemetery, 8:30 a.m.; Trout Creek Covered Bridge, 8:50 a.m.; and back to the Post Home to form the parade which begins at 10 a.m.The parade will end at Union Cemetery, Slatington, where Memorial Day services will be held. The keynote speaker will be Robert Shalala, Pennsylvania American Legion Post Department Commander. In case of inclement weather, services will be held at Slatington Baptist Church, 509 Main Street, Slatington, at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend the parade and services.For information call (610) 767-6657.
