A Carbon County driver was involved in a crash with a school bus in which 15 students were taken to area hospitals. According to state police at Fogelsville, the crash occurred about 5:20 p.m. on Friday, May 11, at the intersection of SR222 northbound and Interstate 78 on-ramp, in Lower Macungie Township.
Troopers said Edward Parish, 68, of Quakertown, operating a 2003 Freightliner school bus for the Pennridge Regional School Districdt, of Quakertown, southbound on 222 in the left turn lane. Jonathan Banko, 20, of Lehighton, was northbound operating a 2008 Subaru Impreza.Troopers said Parish was attempting to enter I78 eastbound and turned left on the green light in front of Banko. As a result the Subaru struck the front end of the bus causing it to rotate counter-clockwise and strike a traffic light pole. The power to the traffic light facing north and southbound traffic on 222 was knocked out.There were 24 students on the bus along with two chaperones. Fifteen of the students were taken to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said. Banko was also injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of minor injuries.The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers added.
