DUI arrests in Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe police reported on two driving under the influence (DUI) arrests made recently.

Police said on Friday, March 30, about 5:29 a.m. officers were dispatched to 35 W. Seventh St., for a report of a female with a suspended license attempting to leave in a vehicle. Upon arrival officers were informed that Jamie L. Ruggiero, 36, of that address, was driving and intoxicated.Joshua R. Leinhard, who was identified as the boyfriend of Ruggiero, refused to give a description of the vehicle but said she damaged the passenger side door of the vehicle by striking a telephone pole in front of the residence.After leaving the scene police observed a Saab sedan with damage to the passenger side and a female driving in the 500 block of Center St. A vehicle stop was made and the driver was identified as Ruggiero. She showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests.She was taken to the Lehighton hospital for a blood test. The test results indicated a .24BAC. She was charged with two counts of DUI, driving under suspension-DUI related, and careless driving.The second arrest occurred about 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, March 31. Police stopped a vehicle operated by Corey Reagan Schlier Sr., 42, of 413 N. Fourth St., Lehighton, along SR209 for a vehicle code violation. Schlier showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest.He was taken to the Lehighton hospital for a blood test. The test results indicated a .30BAC. He was charged with two counts of DUI and two motor vehicle code violations.
