Bridge project is nearly complete

The main item of discussion at the Walker Township board of supervisors meeting last evening was the Catawissa Road bridge project. Being done by Donohue Excavating & Paving, the project is set to be finished by Jun. 13.

The township engineer, David Horst, said the project is on schedule. At the township's request, Donohue gave a $43,000 appraisal to replace the steel grating with a concrete deck. Seeing as how this is optional, the board declined to have the concrete deck installed because of its price."Where are we going to get the money?" Vice Chairman David Price asked. Also at the meeting, Chad Felty was made the township's new road master after a six-month probationary period. His wages will increase to $16 an hour.Next supervisors meeting will be on Thursday, Jun. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building.
