"They really kept it a secret," said a delighted Winifred McFadden of her five children and their spouses. The Jim Thorpe mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was referring to the surprise announcement that she was selected "1990 Mother of the Year" by the Jim Thorpe Memorial Park Commission. Mrs. McFadden was honored by a gathering of over 260 people at the 18th annual Mother's Day dinner-dance at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe.
