Drug suspect captured after hourlong manhunt

Hometown was filled with commotion for about an hour early Saturday morning. Law enforcement officers from Tamaqua, Nesquehoning, Ryan Township, McAdoo, Mahanoy City, Mahanoy Township, DCNR and Pennsylvania State Police out of Frackville converged around the center of the community just after 12:30 a.m. A male passenger of a black Nissan Mirage, which was pulled over on Claremont Avenue (SR309) by Rush Township Police officers, jumped out of the car and ran through the neighborhood.

Officers spent an hour searching several square miles, when Mahanoy City Police Officer Charles Kovalewski noticed a small speck of white in the front yard bushes of a single home located at 20 Lafayette Ave. (SR54). Upon further investigation, Kovalewski spotted a Hispanic male, who was wearing a white T-shirt, stuck in the bushes.Officers were quick to make the arrest.The man was identified as 27-year-old Angel L. Valdivieso III, Wernersville, who had multiple felony warrants from state police in Reading, one of which was for selling cocaine. Valdivieso is facing escape charges, resisting arrest, loitering and prowling at nighttime trespass and criminal mischief charges.Valdivieso was released to PSP Schuylkill Haven.The driver, Arial Colon Jr., a 32-year-old Hispanic male from Reading, who remained in the car, failed a breath test (.123 percent) and was arrested for DUI, driving under DUI suspension and other charges. Rush Township Police Sergeant Duane Frederick expressed the department's appreciation to all the responding units.
