Eight enter guilty pleas in Carbon County court
Eight defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Monday afternoon before Carbon County President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.
They wereRichard Lee Gechter Jr., 43, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to two counts of simple assault. He was arrested on June 17, 2011, by Lehighton police following a domestic incident at his home.Police charged he assaulted his wife, Laurie Gechter, by punching her in the face during a domestic dispute. He was also charged with assaulting his stepson.Gechter admitted he was under the influence of alcohol and heroin at the time of the incident. He has since spent time in an inpatient rehabilitation program, continues counseling, submits to random testing, and completed anger management counseling.Nanovic sentenced him to time-served (six days) to one year in jail on the two counts, running concurrently, and ordered he continue counseling, and zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use.Michelle Hartman, 43, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count each of driving under the influence (DUI) and accidents involving attended vehicle or property.She was arrested by Lehighton police for incidents near the Lehighton hospital at 11th and Hamilton sts.Hartman drove over a street sign, damaged property and a vehicle, struck a fire hydrant and a tree, and failed to give information as required. She admitted being under the influence of controlled substances at the time.Nanovic deferred sentencing to a later date.Jarred Ricky Lee West, 21, of Lehighton, pleaded to in two pending cases.He pleaded to one count each of recklessly endangering another person, and two of simple assault. He was arrested for an incident on Oct. 5, 2010, in which David Liverpool is the victim. He admitted stabbing Liverpool during a dispute. Liverpool required hospitalization and treatment. The incident occurred in Lehighton.He also pleaded to one count of flight to avoid apprehension. That incident occurred in Lehighton when county sheriff deputies attempted to take him into custody on a warrant and he fled on foot. He surrendered to authorities the next day.Nanovic deferred sentencing and ordered a presentence investigation (PSI) report be prepared by the adult probation office. There is a question concerning restitution concerning medical bills, it was noted.Carla Loretta Wolak, 35, of Pottsville, pleaded guilty to one count each of criminal conspiracy-receiving stolen property, and criminal conspiracy-theft.She was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident in which funds earmarked for the Queen of Peace Missionaries of Penn Forest Township were taken and placed in a bank account set up by her and two co-defendants, and used for personal purposes.On the two counts Nanovic placed her on probation for a year, running concurrently, and ordered she make restitution of one-third the amount due, $3,333.Amber Reenock, 27, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. She was arrested by Lansford police for an incident at her residence with her mother the listed victim. A simple assault charge was dropped in a plea bargain.Nanovic imposed a fine of $50.Louis Zielinski, 20, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance-heroin, and persistent disorderly conduct. He was arrested on Sept. 4, 2009, following a vehicle stop by state police along S. Second St., in Lehighton. Found in a backpack in the vehicle was 10 plastic baggies of heroin. Zielinski admitted the backpack belonged to him.Nanovic deferred sentencing to a later date.Leonard Twaskas, 35, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of false identification to law enforcement. He was arrested on June 1, 2009, following an incident in Palmerton. At a vehicle stop along Mauch Chunk Road he gave a false name to police.Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $250.Joseph William Walck, 22, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of furnishing alcohol to a minor. He was arrested on Sept. 21, 2010, by Palmerton police for supplying alcohol to a then 16-year-old female along Delaware Avenue. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program for first time offenders but was revoked for failure to complete all conditions.Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $1,000.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
