Students asked to design postmark for centennial

Palmerton Area students are encouraged to put their artistic talents to the test.

Students who reside in the school district may design a postmark to commemorate the borough's upcoming Centennial celebration.The Palmerton Area Historical Society will sponsor the Centennial Postmark Design Contest. The deadline for registration is April 30.The contest is open to students who are either high school graduates, or students from parochial, charter, cyber, home-schools, and the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit.If there are at least six entrants, first prize will be $100; second prize, $50; and third prize, $25. In the event there are fewer than six entrants, the prizes will be prorated.Each entrant may enter up to three designs, but cannot win more than one prize. The actual postmark may not exceed four inches in width, and two inches in height; will be printed in black and white; and will be used on mail submitted for it this fall.All entries must be submitted by May 31, and become the property of the Palmerton Area Historical Society. It's planned to have the work judged by local artists.Entrants will be referred to The United States Postal Service's web site for more details.There is no charge to enter the contest.
