Renovations to auditorium will cost district $928,000

Renovations to its high school auditorium could cost Palmerton Area School District nearly $930,000.

Five companies submitted bids to the district on Friday, with CC Inc., of Bethlehem, turning in the apparent low bid of $928,700.That proposal was $34,800 less than the next lowest bid of $963,500 by CMG, of Easton.Other companies that bid on the project were Lobar Inc., of Brodheadsville ($967,900); L.R. Costanzo, of Allentown ($978,000); and Uhrig Construction, of Reading, Berks County ($1,093,000).Joseph Faenza, director of facilities, said the project will upgrade the auditorium."This project will give the auditorium a brand new look with state of the art equipment," Faenza said. "Pending approval, the project will start the beginning of May and be finished for the start of the 2012-2013 school year."The project will install new theatrical lighting, a safer rigging system, curtains, a sound system, carpeting, painting, and general redecorating, said Superintendent Carol Boyce.It will be paid for from out of the $5 million bond the prior school board agreed to borrow.The school board is expected to award a contract for the project when it meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
