Lansford business donates to drug tip line

Lansford's new drug tip line has received a $50 donation from a borough business.

John Tucker, a network technician for Windstream, presented the check Friday to Police Chief John Turcmanovich and Mayor Ron Hood. The tip line, (570) 645-8477 (TIPS), was launched in December and has already resulted in substantiated leads, Hood said.Windstream employees, who contributed the donation, hope that their generosity prompts other businesses to follow suit, Tucker said. The tip line is a safe way for residents to report suspicious activity, Hood said."A lot of people just don't want to get involved for fear of retaliation," he said.Turcmanovich urged anyone who sees suspicious activity to call immediately."Please don't wait until the next day," he said.Turcmanovich said, however, that people need to call 911 if the situation is urgent, such as anyone being in danger of harm.
