Final plans on Nosal property approved

Although the final disposition of the expected auction last weekend of the Nosal property was not known to Mahoning Township supervisors at Monday night's supervisors meeting, the township's officials voted 4-0 with Supervisor Frank Ruch absent to provide final approval signatures on the plans provided the township receive a final receipt indicating payment for the EDU's as required for the final condition on the plans.

"Natalie told me that Suzanne [the property's executrix] brought the check into the office here, but she was told she had to take it to Holly [Heintzelman, the Lehighton Municipal Authority's solicitor]," said Supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt. The understanding was that she was to handle the entire proceeding on the day following the supervisors' meeting by visiting the authority, the township and the courthouse to get the deed recorded.Supervisor Linda Benner said she knew there were several people at the sale on Saturday but did not know whether the auction was successful or not. The payment of the EDU's by the estate was the final condition that was contingent on the township officials signing the final plans for the property. At one point several years ago, the property was the center of a legal dispute between township supervisors and developers who were seeking to build a large development on the property. When the final plans were unable to be approved and the economy went into recession the plans were eventually withdrawn.
