Crashes probed

State police at Lehighton reported investigating four crashes, including three hit and runs, in recent days.

A one-vehicle crash occurred about 11:18 p. m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, along Dotters Corner Road, in Polk Township. Troopers said Sheila D. Lassell, 23, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara westbound and going too fast for conditions when she lost control.The vehicle traveled across the eastbound lane and went onto the south shoulder where it impacted with a tree with the front end.Lassell sustained a leg injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by West End ambulance. She was cited for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.The first hit-and-run was reported about 9 p.m. on Saturday, along SR903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier was struck while parked on a lot at the Bear Creek Travel Plaza by an unknown driver who fled the scene.The second hit-and-run was reported about 7 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, along Blue Mountain Road, near Pennell Road, in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a vehicle was driven off the road and struck a speed limit sign. The driver then fled the scene.The third hit- and-run was reported about noon on Sunday in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a vehicle was driven westbound on Squirrelwood Court near Rainbow Terrace when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the road and struck a mailbox along the berm. The driver then fled the scene.
