Vavras help break ESU relay records

Karolina Vavra and Sami Vavra helped break a longtime East Stroudsburg University record during the second day of the PSAC Swimming Championships on Friday.

The Vavras, both graduates of Panther Valley, were part of the 200 free relay that sliced more than a second off the old ESU mark set 34 years ago.The quartet of Karoline (a freshman), Sami (a junior), Kimberly Lawson and Andrea Tremper combined for a time of 1:37.70, breaking the mark of 1:38.82 recorded back in 1978.Sami Vavra was also a member of another relay team Friday that broke a school record. She was part of the 400 medley foursome that finished in 3:59.56, taking more than five seconds off the mark of 4:04.88 the same team swam in December at Grove City.ESU has set school records in all three relays so far at this year's championships. On Thursday in the 200 medley relay, the Vavras were part of a team that set a new standard with a time of 1:50.01.
