Kindergarten registration

Registration for kindergarten classes, in the Tamaqua Area School District, for the 2012-2013 school year, will be held March 12, 13 and 14 at the Rush Elementary School and on March 15 at the West Penn Elementary School.Registration hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.Registration packets will be available at all three of the district's elementary schools, beginning Feb. 27, or at the Tamaqua Area School District website at

www.tamaqua.K12.pa.us. Appointments will then be scheduled for March.Children residing within the Tamaqua Area School District who will reach the age of 5 before Sept. 1, 2012 are eligible to attend kindergarten classes.To register, call (570) 668-3306 the week of Feb. 27, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and from 1-3 p.m. to schedule an appointment.Proof of residency, health records, original birth certificates and original Social Security cards will be required.Children will be evaluated by a classroom teacher, nurse and speech therapist.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Seniors met Feb. 9 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 74 members in attendance. Vice President Nancy Gerber conducted the business meeting and provided her weekly report.Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "Whispers." A report was also offered by secretary Joan Anne Garber.Eleanor Roberts, Jayne Myers and Rosetta Folk were added to the sick list.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.SWNCThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the South Ward Community Center, located at the South Ward Playground. Plans for the upcoming year will be discussed.Anyone interested in improving the South Ward is welcome to attend.Bethany ECThe Rev.
