The Lehigh Valley Railroad's Packerton Shops, at one time the beehive of railroad activity in this area, are fast becoming a thing of the past. The shops closed early last yar. What is left of the big sprawling shops today is nothing but rails hidden among the high weeds, along with a few steel buildings that housed offices, change rooms, and storage. For the past month or so, the Pohl Corporation of Reading has men on duty removing about 10 miles of rails that were used throughout the shops.
