A Tamaqua man faces drug related charges stemming from an early morning incident on New Year's Day.

A police officer was on patrol at 1:20 a.m. when he observed a grey Kia Sportage parked in the lot at the Tamaqua Family Practice office on S. Railroad St. There was one occupant, so the officer stopped to check on the situation.Seated inside the vehicle was Alexander J. Modawar, 31, of 1 S. Lehigh St., who provided no reason for being parked in the private lot. The officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the car and Modawar admitted having a pipe and a container with marijuana on his person.Modawar will be charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
