Free movie night, book signing, Thurs.

A free movie night and book signing will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe.

The book signing and reception will be by local artist Gene Duffy, whose pen name is Jozef Rothstein. It will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m.From 7:45 to 9 p.m., the movie "Living With Uncle Ray" will be shown. The film is about a troubled Vietnam Vet who returns home and finds himself fighting another war … this time for the family TV.A brief question and answer period will follow for those who are considering or who have considered a career in the entertainment business or for anyone curious about the process of making an independent film.Gene Duffy will be sharing his decade long Hollywood experience with the signing of his new book "As the Matzo Ball Turns."The story chronicles an aspiring actor's 10-year encounter with hit men, celebrities and old Jewish ladies and features a very famous deli where he toiled while trying to rise through the ranks of Hollywood.A reception and book signing will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Mauch Chunk Opera House and anyone who purchases a book will also get a free DVD copy of the movie "Living With Uncle Ray."Special musical guest, rapper Payday Monsanto, is tentatively scheduled to appear, performing his new song, "As the Matzo Ball Turns Rap."Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and show time is 7:30 p.m.
