The CROP Walk for the Lehighton/Weissport area will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Lehigh Canal Park in Weissport. Participants can walk four miles or one mile.

The walk starts at 2 p.m.

Each walker needs a sponsor form and seeks donations. To receive a sponsor form please contact Shirley Radler at (610) 377-4278.

CROP walks are a Community Hunger Appeal of Church World Services, which not only provides emergency relief, but also self-help and development types of services. There are 34 denominations that participate in this effort.

Locally, Life (Lehighton Interfaith Fellowship) is coordinating the walk. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised are donated to the Trinity Pantry. The Trinity Pantry received $ 1,037.57 from the Crop Walk held in 2011.

The Trinity Pantry serves families living in the Lehighton Area School District and is a satellite of Shepherd House Inc., Carbon County's Food Distribution System.

Seventy-five percent of the funds raised are donated to Church World Services for its long range, self-help and development programs.
