Area woman celebrates 96th birthday

Matilda "Tilly" Dreisbach, a resident of The Village at Palmerton, celebrated her 96th birthday recently. She was born on Sept. 14, 1916 in Mahanoy City. She later moved to Slatington with her husband, Robert.

Tilly says that her greatest hobby was sewing because her mother was a dressmaker and taught her all the "tricks of the trade." Her favorite saying is, "The old gray mare ain't what she used to be," even though she has no gray hair at all.Tilly enjoys listening to music especially when someone plays the organ on her floor at The Village at Palmerton. She reads the morning and evening papers each day and finds amusement as she sits in her favorite wing chair, watching activities in the common living room as she sips a cup of coffee. She says she likes to people watch, but not in the afternoon because that's when she tunes in to General Hospital. With any kind of luck, both General Hospital and Tilly will continue to keep company every afternoon well into the future.
