Lehighton Ford and Mallard Market plan 10th food giveaway

Lehighton Ford is celebrating its 10th consecutive year of a community outreach that provides a holiday meal for 100 of the less fortunate families in the area.

For the past nine years, Lehighton Ford, in conjunction with Mallard Market, Lehighton, have distributed 100 turkeys and all the trimmings for a holiday meal to 10 area churches. Each church receives 10 meals and then selects 10 families to receive the meals.John Krebs, service department manager, is the coordinator of the Annual Turkey Giveaway, where Lehighton Ford and Mallard Markets combine efforts to provide the meals which feed the 100 families. Lehighton Ford donates 100 turkeys, 100 cans of corn and 100 cans of green beans, and Mallard Market, Lehighton, provides 100 10 lb. bags of fresh potatoes and 100 cans of cranberry sauce."This is our 10th consecutive year," said Krebs. "We started this 10 years ago to help the community in need. These are hard times for some people who are less fortunate."Krebs said that the community outreach is a combination of the efforts of Kent Newhart, CEO and president of Lehighton Ford and Frank Kuhn, owner of Mallard Market.The giving ties back to a key point in the Lehighton Ford Mission Statement: "We will continually recognize our responsibility to the communities and environment in which we live and work. Lehighton Ford would like to help support the community that supports us."The giveaway will take place at 11:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Lehighton Ford, 54 Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East, Lehighton.
