Members of the Tamaqua Volunteers community initiative group spent most of the day Saturday giving away more than 20,000 items free to residents in and around Tamaqua.

The organizer stated that this was their biggest giveaway event ever. Their next community giveaway won't be planned until the arrival of warmer weather.Leftover items, consisting of about 100 bags and boxes of clothing and household items, were then loaded into a large box truck to be given to members of the Citizen's Fire Company of Middleport. The fire company is planning on taking a tractor trailer full of donations to a hurricane victims in New Jersey.
