Week nine gambles just didn't pay off

With the regular season winding down, we waited until Week No. 9 to gamble a little bit and all three of the tossups that we went out on a limb on lost.

Needless to say, Jason Boris, who studies the games more than anyone on the circuit, pulled out all of the close contests and had a 14-1 week last week. Now, it's time to get down to the nitty gritty.Tamaqua is on the verge of an undefeated regular season and visits arch-rival Marian on Saturday with the winner taking the Anthracite Football League crown. Pleasant Valley heads to Stroudsburg to battle the Mountaineers for the Mountain Valley Conference title. Jim Thorpe hosts Lehighton in the Battle of 209 and Palmerton travels to Northern Lehigh with the Blue Mountain Trophy on the line as well as a district playoff berth for the Bulldogs.Panther Valley travels to Minersville to try and end the season with a win, while Northwestern hosts Colonial League champion Catasauqua. What more can you ask for....the regular season can't end on a better note.So here is what our crystal ball came up with:TAMAQUA AT MARIAN - If I wouldn't have picked against the Raiders when I did, I would be alone in second place a lot closer to the leader. The Colts are always tough on their home turf, but the Raiders have come too far to let this one slip away...Tamaqua, 20-14.PANTHER VALLEY AT MINERSVILLE - Two teams that haven't been exactly having their way lately and I think the Panthers want to end the season the same way they started it...Panther Valley, 14-13.LEHIGHTON AT JIM THORPE - This one could actually be one of the more competitive games this weekend. The Indians lost a tough one last week. The Olympians have been in almost very game this season. With the home field advantage, I'm going with ...Jim Thorpe, 28-24.PLEASANT VALLEY AT STROUDSBURG - The Mountaineers and Bears have been headed on a collision course all season. Who ever made the schedule that this matchup would happen in Week 10 deserves a medal...Stroudsburg, 21-19.PALMERTON AT NORTHERN LEHIGH - The Bulldogs have a district playoff berth right in their hands. The Blue Bombers actually have nothing to lose. With preparation time at a minimum this week, it could be interesting...Northern Lehigh, 21-7.CATASAUQUA AT NORTHWESTERN LEHIGH - The Roughies clinched the Colonial League title last week with their win over Northern Lehigh. This week, they go after an undefeated regular season...Catasauqua, 42-7.PALISADES AT SAUCON VALLEY - The Pirates get ready to right their ship against the Panthers, who are coming off a tough loss to Wilson...Palisades, 21-12.NOTRE DAME AT WILSON - Another tossup since the Warriors hope to build off their win last weekend. The Crusaders have been just a tad better this season...Notre Dame, 18-14.BANGOR AT PEN ARGYL - The battle of the Slate Belt will definitely be a drag down, know down affair and that home field advantage for the Green Knights is something I'll always remember...Pen Argyl, 21-19.EAST STROUDSBURG NORTH AT EAST STROUDSBURG SOUTH - The winner gets a district playoff berth...ES South, 14-13.POCONO MOUNTAIN EAST AT POCONO MOUNTAIN WEST - You through out the records when these two teams meet...Pocono Mountain East, 28-19.SCHUYLKILL HAVEN AT BLUE MOUNTAIN - This one is another toss-up. The Hurricanes and Eagles know each other very well. I think we've had enough Hurricane talk this past week...Blue Mountain, 21-17.NAZARETH AT EASTON - The Red Rovers have been a tough team at home for quite some time. The Blue Eagles have a a rough couple of weeks...Easton, 27-24.PARKLAND AT EMMAUS - The Trojans want to build up momentum for the post-season and will be tough to stop now...Parkland, 35-14.LIBERTY AT FREEDOM - Two Bethlehem schools battling for the city's public title...Freedom, 24-13.
