Indians get baseball, softball wins

Lehighton picked up baseball and softball victories on Wednesday.


Lehighton-PM West

Lehighton closed out regular season play with a 4-3 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

The Indians (14-6, 7-5) were led offensively by Joe Oriel, who had two hits and two RBIs. Anthony Farole also had two hits.

Josh Kern went the distance on the mound for Lehighton. He struck out three and scattered nine hits.

PM East-Pleasant Vy.

In a battle for first place in the Mountain Valley Conference and the top-seed in the upcoming playoffs, Pocono Mountain East defeated Pleasant Valley, 5-2.

Adrian Concepcion had two hits for the Bears (9-9, 7-4). John Guadagna and Billy Miceli both had a hit and an RBI.

Zach Sheranko tossed a complete game four-hitter and struck out five for Pocono Mountain East.

Both teams entered the game with 7-3 MVC records.

Lehighton-PM West

Lehighton rolled to a 16-1 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

The Indians scored in all five of their atbats in the mercy-rule shortened contest.

Krysten Breiner led the Indians with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Emily Kollar added two hits and two RBIs while Jenna Smith chipped in a hit, a run scored and two RBIs.

Krista Rehrig struck out four and allowed five hits to pick up the pitching victory.

Panther Vy.-Weatherly

Weatherly cruised to a 14-0 mercy rule victory over Panther Valley in Schuylkill League action.

The Wreckers (10-7, 5-7) clinched a District 11 playoff berth with the win.

Sara Heister had two hits and scored a pair of runs to lead Weatherly. Dominique Adamczyk added two hits and a run scored.

For Panther Valley, Kristyn Gates had two hits.

Catasauqua doubled up on Northwestern for a 14-7 Colonial League victory.

Ali Hammel paced the Roughies with three hits and four RBIs.

Palmerton blanked Lehighton, 2-0, in a non-league game.

Kylee Turko scored with 17:34 left in the first half to put the Bombers on the board. Lauren David added an insurance goal with just under ofur minutes left in the half.

Palmerton goalie Kelsey Eaton made 15 saves to post the shutout.

Lehighton's Kayla Troutman also played well in net as she stopped 16 shots.

Lehighton-PM West

Nick Hill tossed a three-hitter as Lehighton blanked Pocono Mountain West, 1-0.

Jordan Knappenberger (two hits) singled home Vince Mele with the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Indians (11-8).
