Trinity happenings

Seasonal decorating of Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers are welcome to participate in the hanging of the greens and adorning two live trees with lights and "Chrismon" ornaments. A Chrismon is shortened from "Christ" and "mono" gram. The Chrismons were first developed in 1957 by Frances Kipps Spencer at Ascension Lutheran Church, Danville, Va. They are ornaments to proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ through the use of symbols.

Sunday worship at Trinity is at 9 a.m., with Holy communion and children's sermon. The Rev. Richard L. Hinkle presides. A nursery is available for children through age 6 during the worship service. All are invited to coffee house fellowship following the service in Luther Hall.

The schedule for Christmas Eve worship Services: 7 p.m., Family Service, featuring the Trinity Praise Band, with Holy Communion and at 11 p.m., Candlelight Service, with Holy communion. Special music will be played for 20 minutes before the start of each service.

The Rev. Carl Schweitzer presides at both services.

Sunday School "Power Hour" begins at 10:15 for ages 3 through adults. The Sunday School will not meet Dec. 30.

The Trinity Thrift Store will be closed during the week of Christmas, including Dec. 25, 26 and Dec. 29.

Food pantry recipients scheduled for fourth Tuesday distribution, Dec. 25, will see a schedule change for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26,

Starting Jan. 1, 2013, the Rev. Donald Hayn will serve as interim pastor while people of Trinity are in the process of searching for a spiritual leader to serve on a full-time basis. Office hours for Rev. Hayn will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Sherry Sernak, principal of Ss. Peter and Paul School, Lehighton, has announced December Students of the Month: early childhood, Braxton Roetz; preschool, Delilah Arndt; kindergarten, Dante Kalbach and Sophia Sarnowski; first grade, Olivia Stein; second grade, Evelyn Ahner; third grade, Jack Lorenz; fourth grade, Hailey Hoffman; fifth grade, Katherine Aaron; sixth grade, Grace Lorenz; seventh grade, Joseph Giordano and Alexis Rohlfing; and eighth grade, Alesandra Lentini.
