Interstate 81 crash kills 3

Three Canadian citizens died in a one-vehicle crash along Interstate 81 in Butler Township, Schuylkill County, early Saturday morning.

State police at Frackville said the crash occurred about 2:15 a.m. at mile marker 118.6. All the victims were from Quebec.Troopers said Joceyln Caron, 52, was northbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle went onto the west berm and traveled about 300 feet through the grass median before striking a dirt embankment which separates the north and southbound lanes.After impact with the embankment the vehicle was launched over the embankment traveling about 100 feet through the air before making a second impact with the westbound lane of Highridge Park Road below. The vehicle then slammed against the concrete bridge support beneath the interstate where it came to rest on its passenger side facing east.Caron and passenger Paul leRoy-Audy, 60, were flown by Lifeflight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Caron suffered a broken foot, and Audy suffered a broken arm.Troopers said three other passengers died in the crash. They were identified as Caron's wife, Mamon Simard, 57; Danielle Joncas, 54, wife of Audy; and a 17-year-old female, daughter of Audy. All were pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers noted none of the deceased were wearing seat belts while the two injured were wearing seat belts.
