Franklin Township Lions Club donate to local charities

Franklin Township Lions Club has had a busy holiday season.

At the November meeting, four new members were inducted into the Lions Club. District Governor Scott Dudley installed the new members. The new members are Larry and Cuela Stauss, George Andrew and Clifford McFarland.They also donated five food baskets for needy families for Thanksgiving.Club members visited the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Blue Mountain Summit to help Santa Claus deliver Christmas gifts to all of the residents. Gifts were also given to other nursing homes in the area.The club also plans to deliver five food baskets to needy families for Christmas.Recently club members visited the Northeast Pennsylvania Eye Bank in Bethlehem, where club members had an interesting and educational experience. The club also donated $250 to the eye bank.Club President Dave Hawk said that the gift of sight is a miracle for those who are blind.As part of the Christmas season giving, the club donated $500 to the Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry in Lehighton.The club also presented the Melvin Jones Lions Fellowship to Shirley Gross, who has been the club secretary for many years. Melvin Jones Fellowships is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. The recipient of this recognition becomes a model because of the exemplary service to her club and the community for which it serves.Melvin Jones Fellowships are bestowed upon an individual when a donation is made either by the individual or in honor or in memory of an individual. Melvin Jones Fellowship donations are unrestricted (undesignated).Club President Dave Hawk also recognized Jerome Dotter with the Citizen of the Year Award. The award says, "In recognition of all your work throughout the years for the Franklin Township Lions Club.
