Ringing the church bells on Sunday

Dear Editor:

Please see that this article gets in your paper. I think it is very important to the people, not only in this town of Tamaqua, but every town. It is about the ringing of our church bells.I wrote an article about it last year and sent it in to all the churches here in Tamaqua. I only heard from one of them, Zion Lutheran Church. I also heard from a lawyer from town who told me I was right in what I said in the article. The church committee from Zion Church said the same thing. Now a year later, I still do not hear any church bells ringing on Sunday. Not even the Trinity Church chimes playing.Like I said before, all the big loud noise from the vehicles going around and the loud radio playing, yet no one is complaining about that. Our churches have run their bells since the founding of this country. Why, all of a sudden the churches cut down on the sounding of their bells? One ring of a bell takes only 1 second to 1 1/2 seconds to ring. Ring the bell 10 or 15 times on a Sunday morning to start the services will only take 15-20 seconds. Now what is wrong with that?Wake up churches and ring the bells again and loud.Edward Robert RummelTamaqua
