At the monthly meeting of the Mauch Chunk Town Council, the economy question was discussed with the result that it was decided to reduce the wages of borough officials and employees 10 percent, effective January 1. Street employees will be reduced from nine to eight hours per day to make the cut. The reduction fee does not affect the employees of Asa Packer Park, because they are maintained by an endowment fund provided by the late Mary Packer Cummings.
