A Tamaqua man has been charged following an alleged assault on Nov. 20.

Gary Nureck, 305 W. Broad St., told police he and Joann Matalavage, same address, went to visit Matalavage's daughter on East Union Street that morning. As Nureck was sitting in a vehicle near the intersection of Union Street and Rolling Mill Avenue, at 1 a.m., he was approached by John Conahan, 32, of 22 E. Union St., Tamaqua. Conahan began striking the victim in the head and face area. Matalavage witnessed the incident.Officers observed numerous injuries to Nureck's face, especially the eye area.Conahan was cited for simple assault and harassment.
