The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its anniversary dinner at St. Joseph's Social Hall in Summit Hill. President June Leiby conducted the business session. There were 20 members and guests in attendance.Donald Serfass provided a program on high wheel bikes and the history behind the wheel and vintage bikes. His displays included a vintage bike and vintage posters.The next meeting will be held Nov. 22 at Zion's Social Hall in the Lewistown Valley. Guest speaker will be Tom Reed, master gardener. The evening's arrangement theme will be "detergent containers," while the specimen will be a branch with berries.The club was organized in 1946 and is accepting new members. Topics for discussion will include the Halloween On the Hill event and plans for Christmas.Anyone interested in improving the South Ward is welcome to attend.Thanksgiving dinnerThe Tamaqua Salvation Army will sponsor a free community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. A time of fellowship will be held following the service. Sunday school classes meet at 11 a.m.The weekly service is broadcast on radio station WLSH, AM1410, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at noon.Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, rice pudding sale.
