Larry Hill, a former teacher at Franklin Township Elementary School who now teaches at Lehighton Area Middle School, was honored by the Lehighton AmVets for establishing a memorial to honor Franklin Township veterans. Hill was given two AmVets awards, one the Distinguished Service Award and the other the Distinguished Service Certificate. He stressed to the gathering that the children were the motivation behind his efforts and the reason the monument was placed beneath the flagpole at the school.
