A Monroe County teen was jailed on Wednesday, Nov. 2, following a domestic dispute in which he allegedly assaulted a family member.

State police at Fern Ridge responded to 908 Mountain Road, in the Sun Valley development, Effort, in Chestnuthill Township, about 4:30 p.m.Troopers said Kevin Joseph Shevlin-Smith, 18, confronted Joseph Brian Shevlin, 39, and the two got into a physical altercation. During the altercation the teen grabbed the victim by the neck and attempted to stab him with a pair of kitchen scissors.The teen cut the victim on his back before being restrained.The victim suffered a minor injury, troopers said.The teen was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and harassment and placed in the county jail in Snydersville.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 646-2271.
