Four district judges up for election, none opposed

Four magisterial district judge seats are to be filled in the Municipal General Election next Tuesday in Schuylkill County. Polling places open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

One new magistrate is to be elected and incumbents are seeking re-election in three other magistrial districts.Attorney Christina E. Hale, Ashland, captured both the Republican and Democratic party nominations in the primary election in May and is unopposed on the ballot in the general election for the vacant seat in Magisterial District 21-2-01, which comprises of the boroughs of Ashland, Frackville, Gilberton, Girardville, Gordon and Ringtown and townships of Butler, North Union, Ryan, Union and Altamont Section of West Mahanoy Township.She will fill the seat left vacant because of the retirement of District Judge Bernadette Nahas.In the three other districts up for election the incumbents are seeking re-election and are unopposed as they also won the nominations of both parties in the primary election. Like judges and school directors, DJs can crossfile in the primary election.District Judge James R. Ferrier, Schuylkill Haven R.D., is seeking re-election in the 21-3-03 District which comprises of boroughts of Auburn, Cressona, Deer Lake, Landingville, Orwigsburg, Port Clinton and Schuylkill Haven and townships of East Brunswick Township, North Manheim Township, South Manheim Township, Walker Township;, Wayne Township, West Brunswick Township and West Penn Township.District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, is seeking re-election in the 21-3-06 District which comprises of boroughs of Coaldale, McAdoo and Tamaqua and townships of Kline and Rush.District Judge James Reilly, Pottsville, is seeking election to District 21-3-07 which has been amended through a configuration of magisterial districts in the county last April by the state Supreme Court.The new district comprises of the Borough of Mount Carbon and City of Pottsville. The retirement of the late District Judge Charles V. Moran, Pottsville, brought about elimination of his district, 21-3-02 and reconfiguration of Magistrial Districtsd 21-2-01, 21-3-01, 21-3-04, 21-3-06 and 21-3-7 of the 21st Judicial District (Schuylkill County). Union Township was added to District 21-2-01 and Landingville Borough to District 21-3-03.
