Palmerton Historical Society to host church organ concert

Those who attend an organ concert at a Palmerton church this weekend are in for a real treat.

Hosted by the Palmerton Area Historical Society, the concert will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Littte White Church, located at 3rd and Columbia Avenue. The event will include the dedication of an Allen Organ by Robert Ormesher, Director of Music at Salem Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, who will demonstrate the organ with a selection of popular works. The Palmerton Area Historical Society recently received the Allen organ as a gift from Dorothy Kegel and her family. The organ has since been transported and installed in the church by the Allen Organ Company, and replaces a century-old pump organ that has been used for the various services conducted at the church.Ormesher is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania in music education, and has done graduate work at Temple University, as well as at Westminster Choir College. For 30 years, Ormesher has conducted one of the longest running "Messiah" sing-alongs at Salem Lutheran Church, complete with orchestra and soloists. At present, Ormesher gives private instruction in piano, organ, and voice. The dedication service is provided at no charge to the public as part of the Historical Society's celebration of the Palmerton Borough centennial year.Light refreshments will be served after the concert.
