PIC Award

Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) voted on the annual Chestnuthill Township Beautification Award at its meeting Oct. 13.The award will be presented to the winner at the November Chestnuthill Township Supervisors' meeting.The PIC committee extends its thanks to all the businesses that did an outstanding job, maintaining and beautifying their businesses.The group welcomes residents or township officials in Monroe County who would like to start a similar program, to attend any of the PIC meetings.Also welcome are any Chestnuthill Township residents who wish to join the group. PIC meetings are held the second Thursday of the month, except January, February, July and August, at the municipal building on Route 715. The next meeting is Nov.10.For more information call (570) 992-7247.Western Pocono LionessThe Western Pocono Lioness enjoyed a Halloween party last week. The club also installed three new members: Karoline Kormann, Cathie Wallace and returning member, Nancy Christman. Members also signed up for gifts they would be contributing to the club's Secret Santa project, which will benefit two families.In November, the club will meet one week early, on Nov. 15, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Lions District Governor 14U Scott Dudley will be visiting.A soup and dessert event will start the regular meeting at 6 p.m.Shawl blessingMert Wolfe presented information on Effort UMC's Prayer Shawl ministry last Sunday. Since it began 18 months ago, the group has made and sent or given away over 500 prayer shawls. Among the locations to which the shawls have traveled, besides in the West End and surrounding area, are Florida, Maine, Texas and Africa.In addition to Wolfe's talk about that ministry, Pastor Robin Fisher offered a special blessing on the displayed shawls and on the folks who had brought theirs to church.An article in the TIMES NEWS by West Ender Linda Koehler has helped grow the group into Nesquehoning and a second site.Anyone wishing more information about the ministry can call the church office at (570) 629-1890.Rotary mixerThe West End Rotary Club will hold its monthly business meeting at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Western Pocono Community Library. In the evening, from 6-9 p.m., the club will hold a mixer at Antonio's in Brodheadsville. The club will provide snacks and beverages.Chestnuthill SeniorsThe Chestnut Hill Center is open Wednesdays and Fridays. One should call a day or two ahead if planning to attend.
