Effects of weekend snowstorm continue to be felt

The effects of the freak Halloween weekend snowstorm that dumped over a foot of snow on parts of the region still are being felt.

Thousands of people remain without electricity since the storm struck on Saturday.PPL said of its 59,000 customers who are still in the dark, about 16,500 should be restored this morning.During the storm, about 280,000 customers had lost power.Hardest hit was Lehigh County, with 35,151 customers who still haven't had the electric restored.Carbon County has 636 customers out of power, yet. Most are in the Palmerton and Lower Towamensing Township areas.For customers who have no power, PPL is offering free ice and water.Local distributors for the ice and water are:• Jim Thorpe Market.• Boyer's Market in Lansford.• Mallard Market in Lehighton.• Miller's Country Store in Franklin Township.• Redner's Markets in Nesquehoning and Northampton.• J & G Pit Stop in Slatington.
